THE WEIGHT OF COLOR
Galería Cayón (Madrid, Spain)
Nov 25, 2017 Jan 20, 2018

David Magán’s third exhibition at Galería Cayón is as ambitious as it is complex. He presented three installations, seven reliefs – three large-format – two light works and a sculpture, distributed throughout three rooms.

“Magán’s sculptures combine horizontal, vertical and transversal planes to open a ‘dialogue between form and colour.’ This is a conversation that can never be predicted or exactly repeated: each artwork responds to the ever-changing light passing through it, which is mediated by the surrounding space and by subjective and personal encounters. His sculptures project light and shadow, expanding their form far beyond their material edges.”

“[…] Magán creates sculptures that vibrate in space.”

“[…] Closer inspection reveals the utilitarian props keeping them steady: it is perception, not illusion, which is under investigation.”
